Seaside, a charming beach community in South Walton, is so picture perfect, it looks like it could be a movie set—and it was! Seaside was the filming location for Jim Carrey’s classic movie, The Truman Show. With sweet, pastel-colored houses and perfectly landscaped streets, Seaside offers a picturesque background for your next vacation adventure. For those who do not know, this town has been a staple in the 30A market since its development! From second homes to vacation rental properties, you will never make a wrong turn when it comes to this perfect, coastal community!

The Beaches

One of the top reasons to visit Seaside is the beach! With plenty of waterfront properties and easy beach access, the beach is the first place you’ll want to visit and you probably won’t want to leave. Seaside’s beaches offer the cleanest, crystal clear water for swimming and soft white sand for relaxing or playing. They don't call this area the Emerald Coast for nothing! When the days are clear and summer is in full swing, our stretch of the Gulf Coast is awe inspiring. In fact, there are many local art galleries with showings that are inspired by the local scenery.

The community takes pride in welcoming visitors, so our beaches are well maintained, clean, and offer plenty of amenities. Public easements are easily accessible and many housing communities have their own private easements making beach access even more convenient.

The Food (and Drinks!)

The atmosphere is Seaside is fun and relaxed, and their culinary scene coincides perfectly. Seaside offers great food and even better views from our various gulf-front establishments. Most of the restaurants in Seaside are family-owned and have been part of the community for generations. You’ll see locals and visitors mix and mingle at any of the old favorites and you’ll start to feel like a local in no time at these friendly restaurants!

Here are some of the best places to eat while in Seaside:

Modica Market

This eclectic, gourmet grocery store is the perfect place to grab everything you need for a beach picnic or a special meal to prepare at home! Family-owned and operated for more than 25 years, Modica Market has become more than a grocery store—it is the pinnacle of the relaxed, hospitable Seaside way of life. You can pick up anything from homemade Southern treats and gourmet ingredients to local delicacies and wine or beer. They also serve delicious lunch and, if you go, don’t forget to top it off with a slice of one of their famous cakes!

Great Southern Café

Another favorite local joint, Great Southern Café, offers the best of Southern cuisine with local ingredients served up alongside international gourmet choices. The result is a seafood-heavy menu of favorites like Crab Cakes & Fried Green Tomatoes, New-Orleans Style Seafood Gumbo and Balsamic Salmon. As with all of Seaside, the Southern hospitality cannot be beat and the friendly waitstaff, locals, and proprietors create a truly memorable experience. The food and service are so good, you’ll soon be a regular too!

Bud & Alley's Restaurant and Rooftop Bar

A longstanding Seaside tradition, Bud & Alley's Restaurant offers the best of Seaside—local cuisine, Southern hospitality and pristine waterfront. The restaurant motto is “Good people, good food, good times,” and they live up to it! The restaurant downstairs serves updated takes on coastal classics, and the rooftop bar serves up appetizer favorites and a selection of cocktails to go with the stunning views of Seaside’s beaches. We recommend going in the evening to see the beautiful display of the sunset over the water. You can even check out the views virtually via the live stream on their website!

Shopping and Sightseeing

In Seaside, you’ll come for the beach, stay for the food, and keep coming back time and time again for the friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The beaches are stunning, but the true reason to stay in Seaside is the friendly people you will meet while vacationing. While walking through Seaside Square, you will find a variety of local shops that offer everything from handcrafted trinkets and jewelry to music and books that are authored by locals! There are so many shops and storefronts throughout The Square that it would be tough to feature just a few, but the community website has all of the local merchants and their unique niche markets on their website.

Ruskin Place

Check out the shops at Ruskin Place for a picturesque walking mall where you can grab a coffee and browse through local art galleries, handmade gift shops, and beautifully curated boutiques. Then, stop in to one of the quaint local bookstores and grab a book to read on the beach or to curl up with on your porch in the evening. Or, take in the New Orleans-style courtyard architecture and lush botanical landscaping while reading your book on a bench under a Spanish moss covered oak. The possibilities are endless.

Running, Biking, and Paddling

For an outdoor adventure, catch the Timpoochee Trail by foot or bike right off 30A. The trail runs through many of the coastal communities and is a great way to travel between towns, get some exercise and see the sights. For even more outdoor fun, you can try paddle boarding and kayaking with rentals from Watercolor Boathouse Paddle Club.
