Best Place to Walk Your Dog on 30A!

🐾 A Dog Is A Man’s Best Friend

If you and your four-legged best friend call 30A home — or you’re thinking about making this slice of the Emerald Coast your forever place — you already know how special this region is. But the magic of 30A isn’t just its sugar-white beaches and turquoise water — it’s the amazing network of dog-friendly trails, paths, parks, and community walkways that make this stretch of Northwest Florida perfect for pups who love adventures as much as you do.

I spy a Golden Retriever!!👀

Here’s our guide to the best places to lace up your sneakers (or attach that leash!) and explore with your dog.

🌲 1. Watercolor & Seaside Trail Loop

For a scenic stroll packed with views and neighborhood charm, this trail is a local favorite. The Watercolor & Seaside Loop winds through shaded paths, coastal forests, and charming community spaces — offering around 8–9 miles of easy-to-moderate walking terrain that’s great for dogs and handlers alike.

Whether you’re heading out for a quick morning walk or an extended nature outing, this loop connects neighborhoods, lakes, and big sky views — and gives pups plenty to sniff along the way.

Tips for walking:

  • Early mornings or late afternoons are ideal.
  • Stay aware of cyclists and other trail users.

🌳 2. Point Washington State Forest & 30A Trailhead

Happy Doggy = Happy Life

If the word adventure makes your dog’s ears perk up, the Point Washington State Forest trails should be on your list. This sprawling forest features multiple trail loops — from shorter nature paths to longer explorations through pine flatwoods and quiet forest areas.

The 30A Trailhead and Eastern Lake Trails give you options from easy walks to multi-mile loops — all surrounded by nature and wildlife. Dogs are welcome as long as they’re leashed.

Pro tip: These trails are soft-sand and natural surface, so bring good footwear and plenty of water. A collapsible bowl is a must!

🌿 3. Grayton Beach State Park Nature Trails

Just a short drive from WaterColor and Seaside, Grayton Beach State Park isn’t just a gorgeous coastal escape — it’s also home to forest and lake trails that are perfect with your pup.

Explore loops around Western Lake, wander through pine flatwoods and dunes, and enjoy the peaceful rhythm of nature. While dogs aren’t allowed on the beach within the park, the state forest path systems and nature trails offer plenty of walking options for leashed pups.

Remember: pets must be on a leash and under control.

🌲 4. Topsail Hill Preserve State Park

For a blend of forest trails and incredible natural scenery, Topsail Hill Preserve State Park is worth the short drive west of 30A.

With miles of quiet trails weaving through ancient dunes, lakes, and pine forests, your dog will love the variety of scents and terrain. Most of the paths here are shaded and tranquil — perfect for long walks or hikes together.

A few tips before you go:

  • Check trail access ahead — some areas allow pets on leash, others have restrictions.
  • Bring biodegradable bags and water — there are limited facilities once you’re deep in the park.

🏖️ Walking Your Dog on the Beach (And How to Get a Permit)

One of the most common questions we hear from dog owners on 30A is: “Can I walk my dog on the beach?” The short answer is yes — with a permit and a little planning.

For Walton County residents and property owners, beach days with your furry friends are possible — as long as you have the proper permit.

Local dog owners can submit an online application to obtain a Walton County Beach Dog Permit through Walton County Animal Services.

🏖️ Permit Details

Here’s how the program works:

  • Permit cost: $40
  • Renewals: $40 annually
  • Lost tag replacement: $10
  • Expiration date: All permits expire August 1 each year

With a valid permit, dogs are allowed on Walton County beaches year-round during the following hours:

🕒 3:30 p.m. to 8:30 a.m.

Dogs must always be leashed, under control, and cleaned up after — beach etiquette matters!

⚠️ Important Reminder: No Sharing Permits

Walton County has enacted a new code revision regarding beach dog permits. Sharing dog permit tags is strictly prohibited and now carries serious consequences.

If a dog permit is shared, the county may revoke the owner’s beach dog permit entirely.

In short: don’t share your dog’s permit with anyone else. Each permit is issued to a specific dog and owner and must be used accordingly.

🐕 Out Walking the Dog? Swing By an Open House!

One of the best things about living on 30A is how often a simple dog walk turns into a full-on neighborhood adventure. You head out with your pup, stroll the trails or sidewalks, and before you know it… you’re passing a beautiful home with an OPEN HOUSE sign out front.

If you’re already out enjoying the day with your dog, why not take a peek inside?

Here’s what’s happening this week with Live 30A Real Estate — stop by, cool off, and explore what’s new on the market. Your pup can relax in the shade while you check out homes that might just be your next move on 30A. 🏡🐾

Because around here, house hunting doesn’t have to be formal — it can start with a leash, a walk, and a little curiosity.
