Let’s take a trip down memory lane! In the 1890s vacationing at the beach in summer drove interest to small beach resort communities in Florida. Grayton Beach was a small resort for beachgoers from surrounding areas (Alabama, Defuniak Springs, and elsewhere in the county).  By the 1920s, new houses replaced cottages that had been located along the beach since before the 20th century.

On Scenic 30A, the Fourth of July is not only a national holiday, it is a deep-rooted local tradition. People spend all day at the beach gathering with friends and family. Grayton Beach allows permitted cars to drive right up to the water and enjoy firework shows. This is one of the busiest weekends in the area.
